This work seeks to communicate the strong link between digital reality and reality non-digital daily life, or rather “analog life”. The project has a strong connection with the human figure which, progressively during the development of the work is increasingly "digitized" to finally become one part of the aforementioned digital environment, joining in it.
DANIEL SWILLEY (USA)
SlipGrid (2020)
SlipGrid (2020), stereo electroacoustic music and video, was composed for the University of Northern Iowa School of Music Scholarship Benefit Concert in September of 2020. The work is an exploration of interactions between two contrasting ideas/materials in both the audio and visual domains. The first idea is the "grid" which is represented in the audio with percussive polyrhythmic repeated materials and generally more metrically quantized events. In the video, the "grid" is represented by rectangles of various sizes that skeeter around the screen. The second idea is "without grid", and is reflected in the audio by gestural and texture materials more associated with acousmatic music.

Umwelt/4470 - Part I (2024)
Images and materials operate between digital and physical processes, collaborations with AI neural networks draw out visual responses and re-imagine the narrative. The works make use of an ongoing collaboration with AI imaging tools and models. In turn the images produced have influenced changes in the written material as it responds and adapts to its unstable and precarious movements. The title of the work makes reference to Jakob von Uexkull’s notion of the unique environment experienced by every form of life and this is juxtaposed with Ursula Le Guin’s notion of World 4470 where a sentient environment of interconnected intelligent plant life is discovered.

Mixobloodify (2024)
The genesis of the original idea for this work came from an extension of my research on how pipa (Chinese instrument) and electronic music can be hybridized into a new digital language. I was exposed to a lot of concepts about hybridity, to integrate different cultural backgrounds into his creations, and challenge by identity exploration, cultural conflicts, self-acceptance, social recognition, etc. Mixobloodify's intention is to amplify this process of creating Hybrid works, and to use abstract digital language to express the emotions brought about by real-life social issues.
